What it means to be a Chaperone

Inspiration – Your attitude sets the tone and the students will take their enthusiasm cues from you. Inspire the students by expressing interest in Confirmation studies and camp, listening to the Dean, and asking engaging questions. Your positive attitude will make all the difference when their energy begins to fade. Choose to motivate, not deflate!

Guardian: Your top priority as a chaperone is the well being of the kids. Know the whereabouts of your students and keep track of them. We ask chaperones to space themselves in the front, middle and rear when in large group settings.

Disciplinarian: Maintaining discipline and control is the responsibility of the chaperone. One of the primary purposes of this trip is Confirmation Study. We ask the cooperation of the chaperones in keeping the students quiet when the Dean is lecturing, during small group discussions, during prayers and announcements in the dining hall, and between Taps and Reveille (11:00pm and 8:30am) Each Adult chaperone will take a turn at hallway monitoring during the night – 2 Hour shifts.

Time Manager: The weekend is packed with fun and engaging activities. It is critical that we listen for the activity bell to make sure we experience all there is to do! Chaperones greatly assist by keeping the group together and gathering the students at the designated times.
